A product of HowFar Labs Ltd

We are building the software layer for campus life.

HowFar Labs is a Nigerian technology company. We build HowFar, an app that brings the conversation, the trade, the information and the community of a campus into one place.

Why we started

A student can lose an entire opportunity because a message reached them a day late. A seller can lose a sale because the only place to advertise was a status that expired in twenty four hours. A class rep can spend an evening forwarding the same sentence to six groups.

None of that is a technology problem in the abstract. It is a distribution problem with a very specific shape, and it repeats on every campus we visit.

HowFar exists to give that shape a home. One app where the people are, the trade happens, the information arrives, and the class actually works.

How we build

Start from the campus, not the app store

Every feature has to answer a question a real student asked. If we cannot name the student and the situation, it does not get built.

Familiar beats clever

Students should not need a tutorial. Patterns people already know are worth more than a novel interface nobody asked for.

Work on the phone students carry

Mid range Android, limited storage, busy network. That is the baseline, not the edge case.

Community first, scale second

A campus that works well is worth more than ten campuses that half work. We go deep on a school before we go wide.

Where we are

A short, honest version of the story so far.

  1. Step 1

    The problem

Students told us the same thing across different schools. Information arrives late, trade happens in status posts, and the class group is doing work it was never designed for.

  2. Step 2

    The first build

We built messaging and groups first, because nothing else works until the conversation works. Then we added the market, campus life and class around it.

  3. Step 3

    Android launch

HowFar went live on Google Play with chat, groups, campus life, market and class. Students on early campuses shaped what shipped.

  4. Step 4

    What is next

iOS, richer institutional accounts, better search across listings and groups, and more admin controls for large groups.
